If you’re interested in ESG, and don’t already receive the monthly newsletter from Alexander Stafford MP who chairs the All Party Parliamentary Group (“APPG”), let me recommend it to you writes Thom Wilkinson, a Partner in our Property and Environmental Law team.

As Mr Stafford states in his recent introduction to the monthly email: “It has been an incredibly busy period for the APPG on ESG, having held three roundtable discussions in the space of a month. The first was on the Financial Services and Markets Bill, followed by the Green Finance Strategy, and then the Department for Work and Pensions’ ‘Social Factors’ taskforce. All three discussions were well received and proved interesting and insightful.

“For many, the ‘S’ of ESG is falling behind the ‘E’, making the work of groups such as the DWP’s Taskforce so important in continuing work in those areas often overlooked. Of course, all three elements are interconnected and mutually reinforcing, and we must not lose focus on the holistic goal of improvement in all areas; but, by combining environmental and social factors, we can achieve a more comprehensive understanding of the impact businesses have on society and the planet.

“In anticipation of the ISSB’s new standards being released, I am pleased that the APPG will be hosting a roundtable discussion on 18 July about these standards, attended by Board Vice Chair, Sue Lloyd, and Executive Director, Lee White. These standards should offer transparency, consistency, and comparability worldwide, and will play a pivotal role in driving the global transition towards a more sustainable and responsible economy.”

Alexander Stafford, MP for Rother Valley and Chairman of the APPG on ESG.

We expect further developments from the APPG and are really pleased to see yet more evidence of ESG coming up the political as well as the legal and business agenda.
