Stuart is a Senior Associate in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution team.

Stuart Merrison qualified as a Solicitor in 2003 and has since established a litigation practice in the Civil Courts and First Tier (Property Chamber) Tribunal.   He joined Bishop & Sewell in 2015 having worked in London firms for several years.

He acts for individuals and private UK and overseas companies in resolving various disputes that arise.   He has a particular expertise in property related disputes.

In particular, Stuart acts for both landlords and tenants in disputes concerning commercial leases and conducts contentious lease renewal claims under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954.  He can advise on dilapidations, Commercial Rent Arrears Recovery, service charge arrears, forfeiture and relief, unauthorised alterations, use and repossession.

Stuart also acts for both landlords and tenants concerning long residential leases and assured shorthold tenancies including repossession of property, service charge disputes and disrepair, and can advise on procedures in the Civil Courts and First Tier (Property Chamber) Tribunal. His expertise extends to Acquisition Order claims and issues arising out of leasehold enfranchisement and missing landlords
