Stephen Smithers is a Trainee Solicitor in the Family & Divorce team

Stephen joined Bishop & Sewell LLP (B&S) in October 2019 as a paralegal in the Landlord & Tenant Team, where he assisted clients in extending their leases on a voluntary basis or under the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993.

He then briefly left the firm in December 2020 to complete his legal studies at the University of Law until returning in November 2021 to start his training contract.

He has since completed first seat in Residential Conveyancing, where he handled residential sales and purchases, transfers of equity, mortgages, re-mortgages and applications for first registration on unregistered land with elements of administration of estates. Stephen is now in his second seat in the Family Department.

Before joining B&S, Stephen volunteered at Citizens Advice and took an interest in the Bar, working as a barrister’s clerk in two different sets of chambers and undertaking mini-pupillages where he shadowed counsel in court.

About Me

My hobbies: I’m an active musician who performs on viola with the London Phoenix Orchestra, and enjoy being active by cycling, swimming, and playing racket sports.

My alternative career choice: If I had not pursued a career in law, I …… would have become a concert pianist, having been playing since the age of four and given numerous solo performances in parallel with my education and legal career.
