Mariam is a Senior Solicitor in our Immigration team
Mariam joined Bishop & Sewell following the merger with Fisher Meredith in August 2017 where she had been an integral member of the immigration team since September 2011.
Mariam is a Senior Associate in the Immigration team. She graduated from SOAS (University of London) in 2004 with a Law degree and qualified as a solicitor in 2009. Since then she has specialized in immigration and nationality work. She has a broad practice covering all aspects of immigration for individuals, as well as businesses.
Mariam advises individuals and their families in their personal immigration matters including matters related to partners and children of settled persons or migrants, EU nationals, Entrepreneurs and Investors, as well as British citizenship. Mariam is instructed by a number of local authorities to regularise the immigration status of individuals in their care.
She also advises businesses with regards to expanding or maintaining their workforce through the use of the Tier 2 visa route and other Points Based Systems applications. She also assists Sponsors in obtaining and maintaining their Sponsor Licence. Mariam works closely with the firm’s other departments to provide a holistic approach to her business and personal immigration clients.
Mariam has represented clients in cases before the First-Tier and Upper Immigration Tribunals; the Administrative Court and the Court of Appeal. She has successfully settled a number of judicial review matters with costs being awarded in favour of her clients. One notable case involved permission being granted at the Administrative Court challenging Home Office Policy on a country listed on their ‘safe list’.
Mariam is named in the Legal 500 and is a member of the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association and regularly provides pro-bono immigration advice at sessions hosted by the UK Lesbian & Gay Immigration Group. She is also mentor for the University of Law’s LPC and GDL students.
