George is a Senior Associate the Corporate & Commercial team.

George Marques joined the Corporate & Commercial team at Bishop & Sewell in 2021 as Senior Associate following a merger with Monro Wright & Wasbrough.

George’s general area of practice is Business Law with a focus on mergers & acquisitions, secured debt finance, angel/early-stage equity & convertible finance, corporate governance (directors fiduciary/statutory obligations, conflicts of interest, shareholder relations/disputes, Companies Act formalities around formation, compliance and liquidation/winding up), and share capital rationalisations/reorganisations. George also has substantial experience in a variety of commercial matters, having negotiated/concluded a wide range of customer/vendor B2B agreements involving procurement, supply, outsourcing, distribution, and Saas/XaaS agreements, and confidentiality/NDA arrangements.

George’s intellectual property law experience was largely gained at a leading Canadian patent & trademark practice and global telecom giant and spans software/technology inbound and outbound licensing, patent & trademark applications/procurement work, prior-art searches and patentability issues, trademark/domain name disputes and conflicts. George trained at national Canadian law firm Borden, Ladner, Gervais.

In addition to his private practice and inhouse counsel experience in Canada and England & Wales, George brings over a decade of project management and business experience gained at Fortune 500 companies and in cross-border entrepreneurial ventures in Canada, Spain, Portugal and Brazil. George’s multi-disciplinary background in law and engineering enables him to bring a constructive and solutions focussed approach to his clients’ business problems and resolve legal issues efficiently and practically, identify and mitigate legal and practical risk, and effectively liaise with internal and external stakeholders to find solutions to complex business challenges by offering practical, creative advice as well as guidance and insight gleaned from experience navigating both success and failure.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, George worked briefly in product management and marketing for Motorola’s Data Communications division in Brampton, Canada.
