There are two main paths to British citizenship:

Naturalisation

The most common route for adults is through a process known as Naturalisation, when someone has moved to the UK as an adult and lived here lawfully for a certain period of time.

For more detailed information on this route, please visit Naturalisation.

Registration

The other way to become British is through a process known as Registration, which covers many different kinds of application. It is mostly for applicants under the age of 18 but certain adults may also qualify depending on their family background.
