Law School Legal Research Award 2019

Bishop & Sewell and City Law School (University of London)

As part of our engagement with the local community and to attract and engage with upcoming legal talent, we have joined forces with City Law School in Holborn to launch a new Legal Research Award for LPC students.

Open to all of the school’s law students the competition is aimed at complementing the recent incorporation of legal research as a mandatory subject in the LPC solicitor’s course. Legal Research has been recognised as a key skill for aspiring solicitors by The Law Society and the SRA.

The competition will take place during April and May 2019 and will require students to research and present a legal memorandum based on a real-life case. The winner will be selected from a shortlist of 10 submissions and receive a small bursary and a week’s work experience at Bishop & Sewell. The award ceremony will be held at our Russell Square offices in late May and there will also be prizes awarded for second and third place.

The Legal Research Award is a great way for Bishop & Sewell to support local students, encourage research skills and to understand the needs of law schools in anticipation of the new SQE (Solicitors’ Qualification Examination).

Our partnership with City Law School meets three of our four core CSR objectives:

  • To build an ongoing, sustainable relationship – by working with local law schools
  • To use the skills and expertise of our people to support the local community – to provide finance and work experience to local law students
  • To maintain a diverse workforce – to widen the net for our pool of potential Trainee Solicitor and Paralegal intakes
