Bishop & Sewell will be joining a number of household names including UCL, The Bedford Estates, Camden Council and Schroders in sponsoring the 2019 Bloomsbury Festival, whose theme this year is “Small Steps and Giant Leaps”.

For those not familiar with the Bloomsbury Festival, this event is an annual celebration of our local area’s pioneering creativity, presenting an inspiring programme of arts, science, literature, performance, discussion and reflection taking place from 11-20 October.

Corporate social responsibility and community involvement have always been an intrinsic part of our business and something that Bishop & Sewell is very passionate about. We see our Bloomsbury Festival partnership as an opportunity for the firm to strengthen its links with the local community – having been a longstanding member of the legal landscape in Bloomsbury and Midtown for over 40 years.

Bloomsbury Festival

As well focusing on activities where we can make a real difference locally, we aim to build sustainable relationships using the skills and expertise of our people to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment. An example of this is our related project with the Bloomsbury Festival to reduce the use of single-use plastic in the Bloomsbury area through the creation of a co-branded reusable coffee cup.

We are also keen to maintain a diverse workforce as well as support and develop career progression, enhancing opportunities for all in the world of work. Our efforts here range from providing work experience and training contracts to aspiring young solicitors to more recently creating a Legal Research Award with City Law School. This Award scheme was set up to support local students, encourage research skills, nurture new talent and understand the needs of law schools in anticipation of the new SQE (Solicitors’ Qualification Examination).

Above are just some of the activities which are fundamental to our approach to being a socially responsible and sustainable business. However, key to our involvement is the immense enjoyment and benefit for all who get involved. Everyone at Bishop & Sewell is encouraged and entitled to volunteer. Not only is helping others the right thing to do, but those involved also speak highly of the personal satisfaction they gain from their efforts.
